FAQs
What do you specialise in?
I specialise in assessment-led sports and remedial massage for pain, injury, and training-related issues.
Most clients come to me with persistent problems that haven’t fully resolved, or to stay injury-free while training consistently.
Do you treat non-athletes?
Yes. You don’t need to be an athlete to benefit from sports or remedial massage.
Many clients are active professionals, recreational exercisers, or people managing work-related or lifestyle-driven pain.
Do I need a consultation before treatment?
No separate consultation is required.
All sessions include a clinical assessment, discussion of symptoms, and targeted treatment – this is built into every appointment.
What happens at my first appointment?
Your first session includes:
- A brief medical history and consultation
- Movement or postural assessment where appropriate
- Targeted sports or remedial massage treatment
- Clear explanation of findings
- Practical advice to help you manage symptoms between sessions
Treatment time is approximately 45–50 minutes within a one-hour appointment.
What types of treatment do you use?
Treatment is tailored to your presentation and may include:
- Sports or remedial massage
- Soft tissue release and trigger point work
- Stretching or mobility work
- Myofascial cupping (where appropriate)
- Exercise and load-management advice
- Kinesiology taping (used selectively, not routinely)
The focus is always on addressing the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms.
Can you diagnose injuries?
I carry out clinical assessments to identify contributing factors and guide treatment.
I do not provide medical diagnoses, but I will refer on if symptoms suggest further investigation is required.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly without a referral.
Is sports massage safe?
Yes, for the majority of people. If you have medical conditions or concerns, these will be discussed during your assessment.
Can sports massage help back pain or sciatica?
Yes, in many cases.
Lower back pain (with or without sciatica) is very common and often responds well to manual therapy as part of a broader management approach.
Current NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines support manual therapy alongside staying active and appropriate exercise.
If I suspect an underlying pathology, I will advise referral as appropriate.
Can sports massage help running-related injuries?
Yes, in many cases.
Most running-related injuries are influenced by how load is managed rather than a single structure failing.
Sports massage helps by addressing muscular tension, movement restrictions, and compensations that increase strain during running.
It’s commonly used to help manage issues such as calf tightness, Achilles irritation, knee pain, and lower back discomfort related to running.
If symptoms suggest something outside the scope of massage, this will be discussed and referral advised where appropriate.
Does sports massage hurt?
It shouldn’t be painful, but some discomfort can occur – especially when treating sensitive or overloaded tissues.
Treatment is always adjusted to your tolerance and goals. You’re encouraged to give feedback throughout.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing. You’re welcome to bring shorts to change into if you prefer.
You may be asked to remove some clothing depending on the area being treated, but towels are always provided for privacy.
Your comfort, dignity, and consent are prioritised at all times.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on:
- The nature and duration of your issue
- Your training or activity levels
- How your body responds to treatment
Many clients notice improvement within just 1–2 sessions, but longer-standing or complex problems usually benefit from a short block of treatment.
